Southern Tanzania covers a lot of ground — literally. A single trip might take you from the dry plains of Mikumi to the humid forest trails of Udzungwa, so packing smart matters.
Clothing
- Neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, tan) for game drives
- A warm layer for early morning drives — temperatures drop fast before sunrise
- Quick-dry hiking clothes if you're adding Udzungwa's waterfalls to your itinerary
- A light rain jacket, especially in the green season
Footwear
Comfortable closed-toe shoes for game drives, and proper hiking boots if you're doing any of Udzungwa's trails — the terrain can be steep and slippery near the waterfalls.
Gear
- Binoculars (one pair per person is worth it)
- A camera with a zoom lens, or at minimum a good phone camera
- A dry bag or ziplock bags for electronics during the boat safari in Nyerere
- A reusable water bottle — we provide refills throughout your trip
Health & Documents
Check with your doctor about malaria prophylaxis and required vaccinations well before travel. Keep passport copies and travel insurance details accessible, and let us know of any dietary requirements in advance so we can brief your camp or lodge.
What Not to Bring
Leave camouflage clothing at home — it's restricted for civilian use in Tanzania. Bright white and dark blue/black also attract tsetse flies in certain areas, so stick to your neutral tones.
